In this film, Daigo Kobayashi, a cello player whose dream is shattered when his orchestra loses funding, returns to his hometown to seek a new job. The film, an Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film in 2009, allows us to witness Japanese customs and traditions focusing on death with great sensitivity and respect.
