"Stress & Aging: Teaching Older Adults Stress Management Techniques"
Ah, the golden years - worry free living for the rest of your days. Sounds great, but is it reality? Stress is all around us and older adults are not immune to it. Older adults often have different types of stress compared to younger adults and understanding the life course of older adults is Dr. Jim Concotelli, MSW, PhDcritical to developing appropriate stress management strategies for them.
The cumulative effects of changing rolls within their family and society, combined with the normative changes associated with aging, all have implications both on the way stress is experienced as well as treatment strategies. There are a wide variety of techniques older adults can do to minimize stress and maximize happiness.
Dr. Jim Concotelli, MSW, PhD will review the literature on stress and aging, discuss ways to teach stress management to older adults and provide guidelines for how to lead age appropriate stress management programs.
By the end of this session you will be able to:
Explain how stress impacts the lives of older adults
Teach age specific strategies and techniques for managing stress
Lead older adults in breathing and meditation techniques for better health and wellness
Find appropriate stress management tools and resources for teaching older adults
